When Jackie was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 45, she did what she always does when presented with a challenge: she wrote it down. The result is full of laughter, tears, honesty and hope, and is a wonderful read for anyone living with or affected by cancer.

Despite her diagnosis, Jackie quickly realised life was far from bad and became a "bit of an expert" on the less glamorous aspects of cancer treatment, like hair loss, water retention and rich tea biscuits. This book is based on the blog she wrote during her experience with cancer and her nine months of treatment.

We asked Jackie why she decided to write Tea & Chemo in an exclusive interview on the Live Better With blog

“I felt there was brilliant information from Macmillan and the hospital on everything I needed to know factually. So I had no complaints finding that sort of information. But I wanted to find positive stories straight from the horse’s mouth. And they probably were on there online, but I was really scared of looking online because I didn’t want to find anything I didn’t want to read.”

Jackie generously donates all proceeds from the book to three fantastic charities who helped her along the way: The Haven, Breast Cancer Now and The Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, Harrogate.

Jackie Buxton Tea and Chemo

Jackie Buxton is a writer, editor and teacher of creative writing. Diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in December 2013, Jackie decided to blog about her experience of living with cancer and her nine months of treatments. The result is a candid and often humorous insight into a time she nicknames 'Not All Bad'.

Motivated by reader enthusiasm to publish a book based on her blog, Tea & Chemo: Fighting Cancer, Living Life is a patchwork of positivity and resource for those living with cancer, as well as their family and friends.

Jackie lives in Yorkshire with her husband and teenage children and when not writing, can often be found cycling, running, dreaming or tripping up through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
